Description of the project:

The main goal of this project is to develop a new technology for the production of poly(phenylene sulfide) (PPS) – polymer with superior mechanical properties and high thermal stability. The effective polymer purification method will be elaborated. Special attention will be put on recovery of solvents and reduction of wastes and by-products. The methods for utilization of solid, liquid and gaseous wastes will be elaborated which will be technically feasible, economically reasonable and with the lowest environmental impact. The project will consist of conducting the laboratory work on a scale from several dozen grams to several kilograms. The research will be supported by advanced instrumental analysis techniques for monitoring the reaction of polymer formation, composition of process streams and product purity. The obtained polymer samples will be tested in order to determine their structures, electrical and mechanical properties. The requirements of the PPS injection moulding process will be also complied with. Simultaneously, the work will be carried out on the process simulation model using the computer techniques and specialized software.

The final step of this project will be Basic Engineering. The new PPS production process will be defined in details. Its implementation in the Leader's commercial activity is planned after the completion of the project by designing and construction of the PPS production facility.
