ABOUT US

Łukasiewicz Research Network - The Institute of Heavy Organic Synthesis "Blachownia" (Łukasiewicz-ICSO)
boasts over 70 years of expertise in the fields of chemistry and material science. Our research are dedicated to
advancing the principles of the Circular Economy through the development of innovative processing technologies
for renewable raw materials.
We are committed to fostering close collaboration with industry partners, actively participating in R&D consortia,
and offering comprehensive advisory services. Our proficient team utilizes cutting-edge equipment to facilitate
the production and analysis of chemicals, materials, and ecological products sourced from sustainable resources.
We are eager to engage in proposals and collaborate on projects including the chemical processing of renewable
materials, with a focus on creating valuable bio-derived products such as polymer building blocks, polymer
additives, lubricants, coating materials, biofuels, and more.

OUR IDEA

Purification and chemical modification of fats, including processes such as esterification, transesterification, and
epoxidation. Synthesis of compounds and building blocks from fats/fat derivatives through reactions involving
ester groups and unsaturated bonds. For instance, the creation of bio-based polyols for polyurethane (PU)
applications. Exploration and formulation of new bio-based additives (e.g., plasticizers, compatibilizers,
stabilizers, lubricating agents) tailored for polymers/bio-polymers like starch, lignin, chitosan, PHA, and PVC.
Management strategies for by-products resulting from bio-fuel production and residues from the oleochemical
industry. Utilization of fats derived from less-common oilseed plants in the production of coating materials.
Development and optimization of purification methodologies for fatty raw materials, customized to suit their
intended applications.
