Project number: CZ.11.01.02/00/23_011/0000164

Project value: 952 550,47 EUR

Funding amount:

  • 762 040,36 EUR – Total amount
  • 312 733,32 EUR – funding for Łukasiewicz – ICSO “Blachownia”

Implementation period: 01.01.2025 – 31.12.2027

Project aim:

Organic micropollutants, such as pharmaceuticals and poly- and perfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS), pose a serious threat to the ecosystem and human life, despite their relatively low concentrations in the environment. At present, wastewater treatment systems are not yet adapted to effectively remove this type of pollution. They penetrate into the soil and surface waters mainly through untreated sewage. New European Union regulations require sewage treatment plants to implement a multi-stage treatment system that includes monitoring and removal of emerging pollutants.

The project falls under Priority 1.2 A more coordinated approach to environmental protection in the Czech-Polish border region. It provides for the monitoring of newly regulated substances in treatment plants on both sides of the border, as well as the development of effective methods for the elimination of selected micropollutants.

Expected results:

The work carried out in the project will enable cross-border exchange of knowledge on pollution levels and reducing their presence in wastewater. This will facilitate the identification of effective technologies and the development of the potential of wastewater treatment plants on both sides of the border. The project will thus contribute to improving the quality of surface water and thereby support a key objective of the European Union – ensuring access to clean drinking water for all EU citizens.
