Chemical Processes and Technologies Research Group
The group’s activities focus on catalytic processes, including technologies based on ion‑exchange resins and other catalysts, industrial manufacturing processes, as well as pressure processes, particularly those related to hydrogen technologies, oxyalkylation, and petrochemical and carbochemical processes.
Areas of Specialization:
- Processes for obtaining alkylphenols and research on the synthesis of alkylphenol derivatives,
- Synthesis of aromatic polycarbonates from diphenyl carbonate, dimethyl carbonate, and bisphenol A and its bio-based replacements:
- Bisphenol A (BPA) – development of a technology for producing high‑purity BPA for medical and optical‑grade polycarbonates,
- BPTMC – additive for the production of innovative construction polycarbonates for modular building applications.
- Plasticizers for polymers – modern, specialized plasticizers with a wide range of applications, based on petrochemical raw materials and natural compounds,
- Flame retardants – synthesis and characterization of new halogen‑free flame retardants tailored to specific applications, using petrochemical and natural raw materials,
- Wastewater treatment – removal of organic contaminants from industrial wastewater using comprehensive solutions based on ion‑exchange resins, commercial and modified activated carbons, and dedicated membranes,
- Esterification and etherification processes – research on the development of ester and ether derivatives for practical applications,
- Testing, development, modification, and improvement of catalytic systems,
- Studies of processes occurring on ion‑exchange resins aimed at industrial implementation,
- Processes for obtaining glycols, multi‑hydroxyl alcohols, and amino acids, including synthesis, purification, and product separation stages,
- Separation of liquid mixtures – the group operates distillation systems ranging from 2 to 175 dm³ with dedicated distillation columns; separation processes can be carried out from atmospheric pressure to deep vacuum,
- Technologies for producing amidoamines and their derivatives – surface‑active compounds,
- Research on chemical recycling of waste plastics and polymeric materials,
- Biotechnological processes – use of biocatalysts (e.g., enzymes) in industrial manufacturing processes,
- Hydrogen process technologies,
- Oxyalkylation of organic feedstocks, including natural and waste-derived products,
- High‑pressure chemical syntheses,
- Chemical syntheses using process gases,
- Catalysts for oxyalkylation processes,
- Testing catalyst activity and stability in both fixed‑bed and slurry systems,
- Simulation of high‑pressure processes (including hydrogenation) at laboratory and semi‑technical scale,
- Hydrotreatment of hydrocarbon fractions, including biogenic fractions, using low‑emission hydrogen; synthesis of advanced biofuels and RFNBO‑type fuels with innovative catalytic systems,
- Development of materials for specialized fertilizers (EEF) enabling controlled nutrient release, as well as coating of granular fertilizers using biodegradable coating materials,
- Synthesis and production of nonionic surfactants and cosmetic ingredients,
- Development of formulations and methods for market-ready and industrial final products.
The Research Group operates specialized facilities, including:
- Equipment for simulating continuous hydrogen processes at pressures up to 300 bar, enabling catalyst testing in slurry and fixed‑bed systems, including pilot scale,
- A semi‑technical experimental installation for studying processes conducted in a stationary bed in the liquid phase, allowing simulation of industrial conditions; suitable for research as well as pilot‑ or low‑volume production,
- Distillation and rectification equipment.
