Ignacy

MEET Ignacy Łukasiewicz

Our Patron

Our network’s patron is Ignacy Łukasiewicz, born in 1822 in Zaduszniki — a Polish pharmacist, entrepreneur, social activist, patriot, philanthropist, and pioneer of the oil industry.

1852

Łukasiewicz, together with Jan Zeh, conducted the world's first oil distillation using scientific methods.

1853

The first operation was performed under artificial light at a hospital in Lviv. It was illuminated by Ignacy Łukasiewicz's kerosene lamp.

1854

Łukasiewicz, in partnership with T. Trzecieski, founded the first oil mine in Bóbrka near Krosno.

1856

He established the world's first oil distillery in Ulaszowice near Jasło.
