Development of bio-oil dewatering and fractionation process and testing of upgraded bio-oil as engine fuel and feedstock for the production of lubricants

The project was realized within 7th Framework Programme

Project acronym: GREEN-OIL
Project number: FP7-SME-2011-286674-GREEN-OIL
Duration: 30 months
Start date: 01.09.2011
End date: 28.02.2014

Coordinator: Organic Fuel Technology AS
Participants:

Process Integration Limited – United Kingdom
Zimmermann GmbH – Germany
DHI Group Water & Environment – Denmark
Centre of Process Integration, The University of Manchester – United Kingdom
Biomass Research Group, Department of Energy Technology, Aalborg University- Denmark
Instytut Ciężkiej Syntezy Organicznej “Blachownia” – Poland

Project aim:

The aim of the project was to develop the technology to obtain bio-oil for the application in transportation as engine fuel and for the production of lubricants. Consortium wanted to develop the innovative dewatering process to reduce bio-oil water content below 2%, and a new fractionation process and conversion schemes for refining the dewatered bio-oil. Furthermore, the refined bio-oil was tested as a engine fuel and the heavier fractions was assessed as fossil crude replacement for manufacturing lubricants.

This project is now finished.
