Development of an organic biostimulant based on linseed oil derivatives mainly for the cultivation of local vines

PROJECT GRANTED UNDER MEASURES FROM THE PROGRAMME European Funds for Lubuskie 2021-2027, Priority 1 European Funds for Lubuskie Economy, Measure 1.1 Research and innovation, III. Project type – Support for R&D activity of enterprises – modular projects.

Partnership project:

  • OLLEN POL Sp. z o.o. – Applicant
  • Łukasiewicz Research Network – Institute of Heavy Organic Synthesis ”Blachownia” – Partner

Project value: 392.151,36 zł

Funding amount: 295.748,59 zł

Łukasiewicz’s – ICSO “Blachownia” work value: 165.996,49 zł

Funding for Łukasiewicz – ICSO “Blachownia”: 141 097,02 zł

Implementation period: 01.08.2024 – 31.12.2025

Project decription:

The project will develop and test an innovative, environmentally friendly biostimulant designed to combat powdery mildew – a pest that mainly affects vineyards. It is particularly troublesome and difficult to eliminate and causes significant crop losses. The biostimulator will utilise the natural protective properties of flax, whose action will be further enhanced by selected metal nanoparticles. The biostimulator is based on products obtained through the esterification of linseed oil. The resulting biostimulator will be natural, environmentally friendly and biodegradable within a short period of time.

The project will involve R&D works to develop the optimal composition of the biostimulant and test its effectiveness in laboratory and field conditions.

Target group:

The main beneficiaries of the project will be grape growers and individuals who cultivate grapes on a small scale for their own use. As the Lubuskie Province is famous for its vineyards, the Applicants are aware of the problems faced by growers in terms of powdery mildew and the lack of natural means of protecting plants and crops against it, as well as concerns about the use of chemical plant protection products, which have a negative impact on the health benefits of products and the natural environment.

Furthermore, the Applicant’s assessment of the problem shows that powdery mildew also poses a threat to vegetables and ornamental plants grown in home gardens, reducing yields and ornamental value. Therefore, work and research are also being conducted to protect dicotyledonous plants, thereby increasing the target audience.

Project aim:

The main objective of the project is to obtain an ecological biostimulator for combating powdery mildew, based on cyanogenic compounds naturally occurring in flax seeds.

The project is being implemented with a view to strengthening the applicant’s potential and introducing innovative solutions.

Results:

The end result of the Project will be the possibility to diversify the Applicant’s product range while respecting the natural environment and meeting the needs of growers and vine growers, using a by-product from the production of Omega EFAs.
